Lee Gale Gruen
Lee Gale Gruen (Lee Gale is her first name) was one of our first Featured Readers, in May, 2016. Having developed her own second career after she retired, Lee Gale became an expert on helping seniors find fulfillment in their retirement. She had already published her memoir detailing how she developed a second career as an actress. In 2020, Lee Gale published her second book, which helps seniors find purpose after retirement.
After retiring from her 37-year career as a probation officer, Lee Gale became an actress, author, public speaker, and blogger. The story of her transition from retired probation officer to senior actress has been written about in Time
Magazine, the Los Angeles Times newspaper, AARP “Life Reimagined,” and in Marlo Thomas’ 2014 book, It Ain’t Over…Till It’s Over, which profiles different women who have reinvented themselves. Lee Gale’s blog, lecture, and new book on senior reinvention are all titled, “Reinventing Yourself in Your Retirement Years.” They share the goal of helping retirees, those soon to retire, baby boomers, and seniors find joy, excitement and purpose after they retire. As a guest speaker, she has lectured throughout the United States.
Self-Help Book for Retirees and Seniors: Reinventing Yourself in Your Retirement Years: Find Joy, Excitement, and Purpose After You Retire: This book offers a detailed guide for retirees, those soon to retire, baby boomers, and seniors to reinvent themselves in this new stage of their lives: retirement. Not a one-size-fits-all approach, it highlights how each
individual can identify and locate gratifying activities and pursuits based on their own interests and comfort level. The author learned the secret the hard way and finally transitioned from retired probation officer to actress, author,
public speaker, and blogger. Audience members at her lectures on senior reinvention began requesting a book on the subject. This is the result, and it contains the content of those talks as well as six years of posts from her blog.
Memoir: Adventures with Dad: A Father and Daughter’s Journey Through a Senior Acting Class: Author, Lee Gale Gruen, had a 37-year career as a probation officer. After retiring at age 60, she mistakenly enrolled in an acting class for seniors. A few weeks later, her mother died, and she invited her grieving, 85-year-old father to come to class with her. This is the true story of their magical journey attending together for three years, bonding more than ever. The author eventually transitioned into the world of professional acting. As her fledgling, second career started going uphill, her dad’s health started going downhill. She would recount to him each of her new experiences while she sat beside his bed at the nursing home where he resided in his final years.
